All,

The 'new' Porsche RS Spyder ... although this story sez the car is eligible for LeMans, news on the ALMS site sez that Penske is only concentrating on the ALMS series - they're not going to race LeMans next year either.  Wonder why ... are they worried about endurance issues?

Cheers,

The Porsche website says the new car will be built "with a view to being used by customer teams."  Penske has been a factory sponsored effort, probably to shake down the new car for Porsche before the car is entered in the main event, the 24 Hours of LeMans.  About the redisign, Porsche says "the objective: following the RS Spyder’s proof of its competitiveness in its debut season in 2006, Porsche would like to make a refined and even more competitive vehicle available to all its customer teams for 2007."

Americanlemans.com reports that Penske will be campaigning two second generation RS Spyders in ALMS for 2007.  They will do the complete 12-race 2007 season, and will not race in any other series, including LeMans.

A bit late, but was thinking about this the other day.  Is that possibly because Porsche doesn't want to go back to LeMans with a prototype unless they can compete for the overall win?  None of this in-class stuff, but first overall?

Just thinking out loud...
