They must have seen the light.  The original story is at the link below.  It still has a link to the poll, but the link just comes back to the same page now.

“We’re going to kill somebody,” Stewart said. “Somebody else is going to die at Daytona or Talladega with what we’re doing right here. I hope I’m not around when it happens.”

Stewart spent more than 20 minutes arguing the dangers in a closed-door session with NASCAR officials, and they said they heard the two-time champion’s complaints loud and clear.

“Tony can be emotional at times, but when Tony speaks we’re certainly going to listen to him,” NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said. “He was very rational in the way he presented his thoughts.”

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.
