First you might question why this thread is in the history section, but after reading you will know why.

It seems this year Amazing Randy made the biggest statement of the year at Sebring. I believe it is the second year that he did his "Team Impala" autograph signing. Believe it or not it was a bigger hit than even he knows.

After I went to turn in my vest in the tower, I got hunted down my the Track Historian and the Media Director to as about this "Amazing Randy" guy. I admitted to knowing him and asked why they were interested. They showed me the autographed card that they had on the wall and told me that someone brought one up to the tower because this guy iss down at the autograph session signing these cards.

At this point I was a little scared that they were pissed. I said yes I know him, they told me that I MUST know him because it had a SF.com logo on thhe card. Me, still worried, asked if there was a problem. At this point they busted out laughing and said it was the funniest thing that they have ever seen. The media room was "buzzing" with the talk of team impala.

Everyone thought it was the funniest thing they have ever seen. So funny that Speedvision sent their crew to find him and interviewed him and that film actually made the race coverage.

Randy, you must tell us what the interview was like. Was it as a fan, or as a driver?

I asked if it is a problem that he does the autograph session again, and they told me not at all. So, next year I say we really set this up with headshots and all. We MUST get a good picture of the Impala and do so great photoshop work, which I volunteer to do.

Amazing, now you are Sebring History

I really gotta find the picture of Randy signing for Jan Magnassen...This weekend I plan on devoting some time to editing the pictures, at which time I'll find it, and hope to god it looks halfway decent.

You say 2 years in a row?
I wonder if he signed the 'park it here and we keep it banner' I got all the drivers in 2004 to sign?
LOL .. there *were* a couple of tables with nobody in line and drivers name that even I'd never heard of...  Tongue

I got stopped on the street in Toronto on Molson Indy weekend and asked to pose for photos & sign autographs. Of course, I played along..
But to intentionally set up at the autograph session.. CLASSIC!!

gotta love Sebring!

Congrats Randy, I'm glad that I met "the guy" that runs Team Impala.  I had a great time and please tell Jupiter John Hello for me.  Does the Turn 10 crew have a website???

Now I wish that I made it over for the autograph session.  Was still setting up camp (planting trees, spreading mulch, etc.)

One of our camping neighbors took a bingo card over and had it covered with drivers' signatures.

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.

As I was wandering around after the autograph session I heard many people walk by asking each other "Who the hell is that Team Impala?"  "Did you get to the Team Impala table?"  I had no idea what they were talking about at the time, but now I'm wishing I would've gone to check it out.  That's freakin classic.

The picture with Jan didn't come out as I wanted...had too much lens and ended up missing the shot.

Are you kidding me that interview actually made the race coverage I would really like to see that,if anyone copied the race please let me know.
The interview was done as a driver not a fan,it should be quite funny.

 P.S.
 Next year promises
 to be better.

Maybe they were saving it for Infield Hot Pass.

I watched all but 30 mins of the race on Speed on TV and did not see it.

Btw (off-topic), Motors TV in Europe showed I believe, the ENTIRE race, using  Speed's feed & commentators, and their own commentator (who was pretty lousy, but better than nothing) to fill in the gaps when Speed went to commercial break or NASCAR.

Hey Randy!  Its John the video guy from thursday-friday.  A BEEG Thanks to you and all the Turn 10 folks for your hospitality and beer!  I've got some good video shots from the brief time I was there. Drop me a message.  I can say I knew you before SPEED channel made you an icon!
