This is my first trip to Sebring.  My son and I are coming down on Friday, but going back home that night (I only live a couple of hours away).  Back down on Sat. with my son and his wife.  Just looking for pointers of what to expect and a good viewing spot.  I order my tickets today, and can hardly wait.

Welcome,... There is some good wholesome racing entertainment for the whole family at the 12 Hours,... On the other hand, there is lots of drunkiness and debotchery.

I've been promising a newbies guide to Sebring,... I just havn't had the time, but I promise to get something up on the website before the end of this week.  I have over 30 years of experiance at the famous and infamous race event, and hope to purvey that knowledge.

my only suggestion would be to save yourself the time and hassle and stay the night. The line on saturday morning is literally miles long.

Very true, KJ. The line will be several miles and hours long on saturday morning as early as 8am. The track is open 24 hours so if you are not going to camp, i sugest planing on being at sebring by 7am.

You might want to use friday as a dry run and possibly bring camping stuff if you find a good spot.

A friend of mine, a few years ago left St Pete at 5am planning on getting to the track way before 7am. With the traffic and the line to get in, hhe did not get trackside until 10am.

There is usually 200k people at this race and probably less than half camp.... so Imagine a line worse than any disney world one you have seen.

Thanks to all for the info.  I would love to stay over on Friday, but my son's wife is only going on Sat. and we need to go back and pick her up.

Well, if you must leave.... you both might be interested in the friday nite festivities. They include a parade and some bead tossing. All brought to you by the Green Park habitants Smiley

Again thanks for the good information.  I call Sebring to see about upgrading the one day ticket for my son's wife so we all could go on Friday and camp there.  They said it was a simple upgrade when we get there on Friday.  So as long as she can get off work that day, looks like we will just stay there  Friday night and avoid the trip back up to the Tampabay area.

That reminds me of the time I promised a friend that i'd pick her up from the airport, came home from sebring sunday, fell asleep, and woke up three hours after she laneded to a ton of missed phone calls and very angry voicemails. I wont be volenteering for anything on Sebring Sunday again.

I usually go into detox mode and sleep a good 10 hours Smiley

Funny story, the job I have now wanted me to start the week of Sebring. I told them that I could not start beecause I would be out of town and would not be back until tuesday.

I didn't want to show up to a new job the monday after sebring Smiley

I have been here a few years and everyone knows now and laughs about it.... "You coming in monday?"

Sheez, buncha lightweights.  I'm planning on leaving Sunday before my usual noon departure to get back to St. Pete for the Blues Fest.

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.

Last year we left early morning for the long drive back to Toronto. We were going to stop for brunch in Avon Park but every place we stopped at or passed had HUGE lineups. We thought it best to drive a bit before stopping, and found a nice family restaurant in Lake Wales that was advertising an all-you-can eat brunch. Imagine my delight when we found out that it included champagne-&-peach beverages!!

I told my friend it was my car.. I make the rules - YOU drive until I've sobered up!!
