Anybody seen this yet?

12 Hours of Sebring 1970
Text and photos by Harry Hurst
Foreword by Mario Andretti

Note this is not the 1970 Photo Archive that's been out for a few years.  I hope it's as good as the website description.  I bought 2, one for Dad, one for me (don't spoil his Christmas surprise).  1970 was our first year (I was 9), and Dad and I never missed one, until last year <sniff>.  No, no, he's still around, just Mom went and scheduled a trip that weekend.  You'd think that she'd remember the 3rd Saturday in March after 34 years.

Speaking of the photo archive, anybody got that?  Open the cover and there's an aerial shot of the track--and it's not 1970.  Green Park isn't open to spectators.

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.

On a new book note, there is an outstanding new book called "Blue and Orange" by Michael Cotton. He has written many historical racing books in the past. This new one is the entire history of Gulf Oil in racing and is full of wonderful pictures and written history. Some of the vendors will be selling it at the race, so if you see it, pick it up. Its not a cheap book but well worth it.

Last year Dave Friedman stopped by my front straight spaces and signed a bunch of books that I had bought for my krewe.

He has awesome books and is a legend in automobile photography,..

Check out his stuff at http://www.dfphotoservices.com/index1.cfm

I'm the author/photographer of the new book on the 1970 Sebring. I just found this forum - I wish I had known about it earlier! Really great that you're helping keep the glorious history of Sebring alive.

I am planning on doing other books on Sebring races (1965 in particular) and will probably also do books on the 1970 Daytona and Road Atlanta Can-am. Those were very special times and I think putting together collections of photos of just one race really helps to "go back in time." But, since this isn't my daytime job, things are progressing slowly.

I will also be posting some selected photos to this forum as soon as I figure out how to do it. I've posted some at the Nostalgia forum, but I really like that you concentrate on just Sebring. Great place. Too bad they've cleaned it up! (Just kidding.)
