Sorry, we are on a 3 hours delay or something here on the west coast.

Team Compton will be in full force! We love Dutchies! Site 92...

I sent this letter to Mr. Foster shortly after our return back to the left coast. not sure if anyone saw the article he was to write but, I just want to again thank all the AWESOME people we met!

My best friend and I have been planning a trip to Sebring for 5 years. Finally, this year we made it happen. Ironically, I am engaged to be married, with an initial wedding date of early June that was pushed back to October, prompted this entire trip. With time and money now more available, we set off for Sebring. We arrived at the track about 11:15 on Thursday morning. We ended up waiting, in line to cross into Green Park for about an hour and a half. Being seasoned ALMS veterans that didn't stop us from opening up or first of many beer's of the weekend. The hour and a half went by quick already meeting several new people.

We pulled into Green Park and made our way around the bend. Seeing a concert stage and to the right a giant spongebob, we spotted a piece of large open ground. We pulled in, asked politely to our new neighbor if that spot was reserved. It wasn’t, so that was our new home until Sunday morning.

We took a few minutes to set up camp, loaded up a back pack full of drinks and headed out to check out the track. We stopped by the Turn 10 complex where we were quickly recoginzed, I don't know how, as the "two guys from California". We were invited up to introduce our selves and meet a plethora of AWESOME people. Our weekend would not have been the same had we not met these folks. They are trully the most hospitable and wonderful people at the track. Mike and I loved Joe's filet sandwhiches, which even after politely declining he insisted we eat one regardless. We wish we could have done somehting for them but, they seemed to have come prepared for everything. I believe the most impressive part, was the hospitality they provide for the volunteer corner workers manning turn 10. They cook 3 meals for them. AWESOME!.

I don't know that there was a favorite, aside from the people of turn 10. I can't really say there was a major dislike either. I don't travel looking for something I don't like. Having been our first time attending the race, it is tough to know what is normal and what isn't. Therfore, we just absorbed whatever happend as part of the experience. If anything, I would say we are a bit spoiled having Laguna Seca as a home track. With so many elevation changes, one can sit in many different places and see 50-75% of the track. Even the flatness of the track aside, the viewing areas still provided great places to watch the cars and people go by.

I was there on Thursday evening, well, at least physically. For those interested we will be at Turn 5 in September when the ALMS comes to Monterey.

I think that area is a little dangerous due to a lot of drug wars. The first thing that a Google search came up with http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/news/2011/07/26/17-inmates-die-in-shootout-at-prison-in-mexican-border-city/

Some areas of Mexico are turning Mack Trucks into battle tanks to run drugs in !!!
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/08/world/americas/08mexico.html

The Texas side is much safer place to visit, just be prepared to be stopped by border patrols in Texas to check for unwanted aliens !!

Make sure your gas tank is full in Texas as it's along way between city's !!!

As NoSweat says......Juarez used to be a gem.....now it's a war zone. Be prepared to show your papers when you're around the border. Border patrol sets up random check points. Went thru one last year going from El Paso Texas to Alamagordo New Mexico. One of the agents thought he heard one of us say the name "pancho" which didn't match any of our papers so we ended up face down in the road. Just sayin.....

also got some feedback from within the group to do more in California (i.e. hiking in a state park) so might concentrate on that!

You are more than welcome at Club Howard for the journey thru Natchitoches La. Bring an appetite and dirty laundry. The washing machine and hot showers are OPEN! More to your personal to follow. Beer

Wow, what a trip!  I'll be at Laguna, flying in Thursday night.  We'll be staying in Monterey, are you camping or staying in a hotel?
