The short version: case was dismissed.

The long version.
Called Pipkin/Fletcher (thank you Lorie!), they were used by the last YFDS'er with Highlands County 'issues'. They didn't want anything to do with it. They said no one wins these things, the cops always show up for court, and everything is always in order. They gave me a referral to another attorney. Got the same story, though they would take the case for $600. Would have gone with that, but the person I talked to said the same stuff how no one wins, they probably wouldn't win, but they'd take my money.
All they had to do was say they'd do their best and I would have gone with them, but they were so negative, I moved on. On, meaning the prestigious firm of Finebloom and Haenel
http://www.fightyourtickets.com/
Basically found them by some stellar googling.

They wanted $300, they said they would do what they could, said the same basic thing about how it would be very unlikely to win but they would try to get it reduced etc if that was all they could, though the goal was still to make it go away.
Good enough. It's basically a ticket defense joint as far as I can tell, so I wasn't real confident after all that. Court date was last week, and probably my only complaint about this firm was that they couldn't/didn't tell me the outcome. Was looking on the Highlands County website as well, they don't update that real quickly. Finally, last night I see on there that it said it was dismissed, then I got a letter from the law firm today stating the same thing.
No idea how or why, but I'm obviously thrilled with that outcome.
Anyway, this is why fighting speeding/traffic tickets is very often worth it. It cost basically the same as what the fine was, only now my driving record stays clean, no 5 years of raised insurance rates, no stupid traffic school, no

etc. I have a problem with the way that bit of legalized racketeering operates, fortunately the law affords us some limited opportunity to do something about it.

Your mileage may vary. Hopefully you don't run across a

with a trigger happy radar gun.
