In the weeds again

Two things you might want to know. The Watering Hole was closed in October, but now has been bought and owners hope tp be up and running by Race Week. It will be known as Cowpokes Watering Hole & Grille. (They also are the presenting sponsor of the 12 Hours of Sebring Bikini Contest.
Secondly, the ABC has moved, there is a new, much larger store as an outparcel on the grounds of the Home Depot store.

Just FYI.  smiley6600

That sucks, I only heard about the Watering Hole a few months ago.  Will the new owners still have a live 12 foot alligator inside?

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.

What about the liquor store that was next to the old Albertsons.  Is that a Kroger now?

The old Alberstsons is a Publix now - I will check on the status of the liquor store. The status of Bully the Gator is unknown at this time. However, the new owners are not that far removed (philosophically) from the old ones. I anticipate the "new" Watering Hole will be about the same as it was before it closed.

There is a package store attached to Sweetbay. That is across the street from where the old ABC was. This is the closest Liquor store to the track.

There is a package store next to the Publix (Which is the old Albertsons) ... new owners DO plan to have a live gator at Cowpokes Watering Hole although this apparently will be a different gator ...
I also cannot find my earlier post asking about what provisions people bring with them and what they buy locally so I'll ask again as to what you might "normally" purchase here (including gas and/or dinner at a restaurant). I am trying to determine if what we are told by local tourism officials is true - so I'm asking you guys - as you have been coming here long enough that your answers reflect what the "average fan" might do.
Let me say thanx also to all of you for your refreshingly candid answers, you have helped me more than you know..

The only things I buy locally are beer, liquor and ice unless I forget something that is a necessity.

In all the years I've been (40) I've never left the track once I came through the gates.  Have pitched in on ice runs and one extremely flooded year some of the crew went to Walmart for supplies--I gave them money for some new shoes and they were sold out.

Coming from St. Pete we never pass through town.  Last minute shopping tradition is for a stop in Zolfo Springs.  Years ago we'd buy a swamp cabbage or two, now we buy porno mags.  I do stop at the Shell at 27/98 and buy ice if there's still room in the cooler.

A few years ago some of the crew were parking their rig at the campsite (after towing a trailer from Gainesville) when the fan blade fell off the water pump, gouging the radiator on the way down.  So that Friday a parts store in Sebring sold a Chevy water pump, fan clutch, radiator, coolant, gasket sealer, maybe belt and fan too.

Another year one of the crew bought some services from the emergency room.  And we won't talk about the bail bond.

That's another good reason to camp where I do. If I get lost, I can follow the trail of porn to Kings_Suck's camp and I'm almost home.

Unfortunately won't be there this year. Have done 5 of the last 6 races. As I travel in from overseas, it depends on when I arrive and how.

Have bought anything and everything some years, including tent, pillow, sleeping bag, air mattress, coolers, food and drink. Others I have stayed with Turn 10 friends and we have done most food shopping at their local stores but have bought ice, beer and liquor in Sebring. Nearly always top up during the wek too. Will normally have a meal in Sebring somewhere at some point, even if only on the way into town on Tuesday evening.

Have always bought the Tropicoma ingredients locally!!
