Correct me if I am wrong, Jan had to give the lead back after a Pit Out line crosing infraction at the end of the race. He then made up the distance and had been faster the last few laps coming out of the corkscrew and into the downhill. The inside line he had by a half a car, but the Porsche cannot pinch over - which he did. In the prior corner, I do agree that Jan was wrong for the tail kiss - but I do not believe that you should squash your opponent (the Vette) into concrete.

Do you think the hit by the Corvette kept the Porsche from getting the power down coming out of the turn?

Yes, you can clearly see that he was having trouble getting drive off the corner after Joerg parked it(which I would have as well)after the punt he is then off into the dirty line, with hella pickup..so...yeah he probably could not get the power down effectively. If he could have it would have been the CLOSEST finish in series history. I feel quite honestly that if Jan didn't drill Joerg coming into 11 that he would have gotten alongside, but not gotten fully around by the line. I would have given Joerg about a 12" lead across the line.

I do agree though, Melo did the same thing in 07 at Sebring, drove Joerg all the way to the wall on the backstretch and got him loose coming through 17, then drove him back out to the wall..in reality, Jan could have pushed back just as hard. 2010 is going to be a ridiculous fight all year long..I highly doubt Porsche is going to sit nicely and take this one on the chin. I bet some serious development is going to be done during the winter.

Like, Porsche putting legal 3.8 liter engines in their cars?  Not 4.0 liter with liners?

Well, that is an eggshell I'm not going to step on. Then again, Corvette ran with a non-legal motor in their GT1 car too.  Wink

Bergmeister got jobbed at Sebring in '07, with IMSA allowing Melo's last-lap NASCAR tactics to stand.  Understandably, I don't think he was going to take the chance that they would let it happen again.  I back the Vettes, but I'm trying not to be a homer.  That said - I'm with GGoose in that if you bang someone out of the way in the last corner, you don't leave your rear quarter exposed, ripe for the spinnin'.  Had he banged him  wink when they were door to door, he might have had the space to get by.  Had he not hit him in the last turn, he might not have had to worry about it.  Bergmeister could have run him right into the wall if he wanted to, but would have run the risk of ending up like Magnussen did.
