It was said in a recent article, abnd I quote...

"Meanwhile a veteran team owner and manager with close to forty years experience said at Lime Rock that if no new manufacturers front up with P1 cars for next year IMSA will create an equivalency formula to encourage Grand-Am Daytona prototypes to race in the ALMS"

With a small bit of thought, it's one of two people...Penske or Dyson. Both of which, have or have had their hand in the ALMS and GA. Could a unification be slowly starting?

Penske wasn't at LRP.

Sorry, thought I posted the link...

And, the more I thought about it...Dyson has only been in business for about 25 or so years...so...who else does that leave if we are 100% sure Penske wasn't there..meetings seem to happen with high level people on race weekends, because everyone is around. I'm confused a bit too now.

He was another consideration..but a quick look at Highcroft's website says 1989. Rahal was a possibility, i think he's been around since 79. The article is a bit vague as to only managing, or both managing and driving.

So, from everything I can find elsewhere on this topic, it seems like the rumors have shown up due to the economy sucking eggs. In short, if the Acura teams continue to make noise about no competition, I think they will open talks to preserve their own series, while enhancing another. Personally speaking, I think it woul dbe best to run several co-weekends for 2010/2011 seasons, and see how it goes. AND, we could see the ALMS protoypes at Daytona again, seeing as they would only be entering their cars in a 24hr race. As the ACO forbids the ALMS from having their own 24hr event.

Looks like things are not good in the grand-am camp...according to murphy, the words "cash shortage" have been thrown around.  smitten

Yeah, Grand Yam isn't doing too well either.  Maybe if they allowed spectators ...  grin   If NASCAR is fully funding up to 11 proto-turtles (as had been mentioned elsewhere), do you think NASCAR would let them run in ALMS?  cheesy

I don't think so, I realy have a feeling this is going to carry on for at least through the 2010 season. This "world championship" nonsense will disturb everything if it happens. Many would like to see the LMS format here, I would too, but it's not for the US market. Nobody is that commited to an event for that long, the fans just won't go for it. A mid-summer 1000km event is needed though. The ALMS needs to dump the damn streetcourses too, that's not where a series like this needs to be. When NASCAR/France stop paying for these turtles to run, they will leave. It's all a matter of where they will land.

The other option of moving everything into a two class structure is by far the best thing that can be done IMO. GT1 is dead, even the FIA GT is more of a GT2/3 event now, the 24HR of Spa only had 10 GT1 entries. P2 cars can be moved into the P1 class with power and weight breaks. I can't think of a single P2 car other than the current P2 Acura, and the RS Spyder than can't be converted into a P1 car. The GT3C Cars could be other stuff besides just a handful of Porsches..I'm pretty sure there are more than a few GT3 cars out there to run with the GT3C class.
