I got a PM today telling me that at the end of the 24 hours of daytona race yesterday, Lee put a rebar stake thru the inside of his knee. They took him to the hospital for repair. He got home mid-evening last night. Stitches, shots and now drugs and crutches.

Hopefully we get an update soon. This really puts a hamper on him photographing sebring this year which would be a shame. Please can everyone please wish him a speedy recovery.

I imagine once he gets off the heavy pain killers we might get the whole story.

Lee,

Stay home and play with Roxy!  If you do not get that healed up, you can't swing clubs on Sunday!!!

Do not go to Sebring test.

Sack - great job !

I'm alive.

that sure happened fast.  The race just ended, last car has gone through turn 6 back onto the high banks.

I see a piece of race car out by the cone on the track, blast off with the airhorn and ask the corner guy if I can have it, he says ok and waves turn the corner workers . we wear camped two campers from the end up there, then a small grand stand, then the corner station, really close. I turned to step over some snow fence- low plastic shit, about 12" tall.

next thing I know I'm sitting down on my but looking at my left pants leg and its SOAKED in blood. I mean soaked.

don't know what happened. tripped? misstep? gravity.

I went right to the corner station and sain "I need a Medic" they had me on a gurney and leaving the track in an ambulance inside of 5 minutes! race was over, they were leaving anyway. To Halifax ER. bleeders get right in.

three hours later I'm checked out. Tony has come back (he was on his way home) he got me back over to the track,
I got in the dumpster and drove myself home.

I did not take a rebar through the knee. I did get a nasty puncture would just below the knee on the inside of the left leg. L shaped cut about 1 1/2 inches on the long side and 1 inch on the short side. seven big stitches.

I'm in a leg brace so I can't bend the knee. stitches out in 2 weeks.

thanks to all. I really appreciate it.

I decided not to drive over to sebring for the test today.

see you'se guys in March all healed and ready to drink.

Lee after all that pain and suffering, did you even get the scrap from the Car? Wink

Glad to hear you are ok.

Crappy end to an otherwise fun weekend.

OUCH!

What he said!

Did you snap any photos of your leg?

Years ago at Sebring the Pit Crew set up a basketball net on the side of the truck and Rob tried a dunk; landed on the trailer hitch.  Took a big chunk of meat out of his shin.  Conversation went: "OH SHIT!  ROB'S CUT BAD!!!...  Donny, get the camera!"

Hope you heal quickly!

You've only got to spend 5 minutes on sebringfans.com to realize that, while many of them may be knowledgeable fans, this race is mostly a drinking binge with some noisy cars in the background.
The focus (on that site) on alcohol consumption is really kind of depressing. I'm kind of amazed (and disappointed) that track management doesn't do anything to try and go a bit more upmarket.
If I wanted to hang with drunken louts I'd go to a British premier league game.

Damn, Lee,

What's wrong with you; to old to jump over fences?

Get well fast, only 50 days till Sebring 2009!

I'll take over your photo duties at Sebring if you need me to.

We will have to set up a snow fence hurdle race somewhere around turn 10. Lee can take on all challengers.

Glad to hear it wasn't too serious, but a gash like that could have been much worse.

Also, glad to hear they don't have to designate a handicapped parking space for you in T10, and don't have to worry about making the scaffolding handicapped accessible!

Lee,

Just logged on and was shocked to see the Get Well Soon Lee banner. Sounds like a nasty gash and probably from an L shaped girder holding the fence in place.

Keep it well rested and use it as a good excuse to sit and watch some racing videos , and enjoy being spoiled by Jerri and Roxy.

Get it better so that you can be fully mobile again in time for Sebring.

Get well soon mate.

Regards
Chris
