Hey guys / gals ... a question regarding the difference between the types of media credentials.  The types listed on the request form are 6 (General Media), 7 (Photo Circuit) and 8 (Deadline Media).

What is the difference in access between the types, or is there any?  Do general media have access to the photo circuit?  Does the photo circuit only allow access to certain areas?

Not that I may have a line on credentials for this years race or anything, you understand ...  Cool ... just 'curious'.  Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Well, in the past the Photo Circuit did not have access to hot pit areas or the Media Center/Booth but only to the areas around the track on the photo circuit.  If I'm not mistaken the General Media gets you in all and I have no idea what Deadline Media is other than maybe just the Media Center/Booth.  Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

She is exactly correct.

If you wish to have access between the fences, you will also need a photo vest. I heard last year that the ALMS is going to start charging $75 per vest, per race. Something about insurance and such.

Spoke with the director of Media Communications @ Sebring, due to a number of real flaming as*h*les in the previous 2-3 years who have ruined it for all of us freelancers, mdia restrictions will be SEVERELY RESTRICTED. You and your agency you represent will be challenged for tear sheets, customer lists, etc. then to topit off, all shooters will be reviewed by a panel of 3 photjournalist judges for approval. Their decision is final ...no appeals. allowed

I have done free lance for AFP (Agence France Presse Paris, France) for over 10 years and am having to face the same reviews.

Well, if you're a professional, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. It's a bit of a hassle maybe, that's all. BTW, welcome to the forum.

The review process has always been that way...in the last couple of years they've been a little more selective, but that's just part of the business. Personally it is quite annoying having to deal with the guy who just bought a digital camera and thinks he's a photographer at events like this, so it's welcomed (to a point).

what if you're just planning to write about the event (no need for between the fences photos)?  If you work as a journalist for a newspaper, for example, can you get press pass, if your publisher signs of on the request?  If so, what do you get for that, and do you still have to pay an admission ticket?

Then you apply for a #6 which is non-deadline media, or #8 which is deadline media depending on your needs.

Sebring/ALMS's concern lies with the number of people on course.
