Wish we had a few of those over here.  Maybe Racing For Holland can talk some teams into invading ALMS for the last two races.

Interesting that Aston Martin Racing isn't on the list.  Guess they're just going for LeMans this year and nothing else.

Thanks for sharing Pieter.

If Mr. Panoz offered a substantial winning purses (200k to 500k) to each class I think we would see some teams from europe jump on over to the 12 hr for a nice tune up.  $25,000 to the winner is a disgrace!!!

I'm not an expert by any means, but i would guess that difference is mainly due to the fact that the LMS is much more popular over in Europe, et al. And they can afford to give out that kind of cash. Whereas over here, NA$CAR (as Scott would spell it) is the king of racing to the masses which doesn't leave much attention, airtime, etc left for ALMS...

Of course that doesn't mean that ALMS isn't infinitely more entertaining, but that's a completely different discussion

Actually from what I hear, ALMS has better attendence and sponsorship.  Also better viewership.  I am sure that LMS would skyrocket on that front if Speed picked up the races live and full length.  The purses do hurt a lot.  There is very little money to be made in ALMS.  What needs to happen for that to increase is for everyone to start recruiting fans.  The series needs and title sponsor very bad.  If more people watched and attended, that would be more likely to happen.  If that were to come along, the purses would go up a lot.

Don't forget that ALMS has been around longer than the LMS, I think, but not sure, this is only the fourth year in a row for the new style LMS. Attendance at the races is indeed less than ALMS, but I think that combining ALMS races with CART races, like in St Petes, also draws a bigger crowd. Here LMS is the big attraction, support races are usually fun to see, but not really high end racing. I will be going to Le Mans this year, as well as Spa 1000 km and hopefully Silverstone 1000 km.

Crowds are getting better every year, so hopefully TV in Europe will pick up on it. Formula 1  still receives the biggest attention uglystupid2 in our race car broadcasts, but they are getting better at it.

Well, I stand corrected then...  Undecided

I agree that we need televised coverage, it's hard to get a fan base if the fans can't see the races.  We get LeMans but that's the only one race.  All races series have struggled for popularity in the States until it gets covered on TV and even then it still takes a bit of time.  With LMS cars already having a history prior to forming 4 years ago (like ALMS did) it shouldn't take long to justify coverage.  But as previously stated it all amount the money and sponsorship.
